Artoteket was initiated in 2014 together with Konstfrämjandet and Tensta konsthall in Stockholm. It was a wandering art library with lendable contemporary art works. The project related back to Konstfrämjandet’s Artotek 73 from 1973.

In the first version of Artoteket a selection of lendable art works that reconceptualized the library as public space was part of the collection, and in the latest version of the project, Artoteket RUT, the selection of art works revolved around questions about institutionalized society (the public sphere, politics, the economy, ideas about man) and its interaction with the domestic sphere. The name RUT came from a Swedish law passed in 2011 that made it possible for individuals to obtain tax deductions for household services.
